Our Church Beliefs & History
We are humbly proud of our church’s as well as our town’s heritage & history. We are thrice blessed to be Christians, Texans and Roughnecks
Sundown Church Beliefs
Sundown Church proclaims His Word, serves the Lord and the community as a non-denominational, foundational, Bible-based church with solid, core Christian values
The Town’s Heritage
In 1928, the town of Sundown began as part of the C.C. Slaughter Ranch, hence, our football field’s name, Slaughter Field
Some say our town is named after a western movie while others say the name came about because the settlers’ discussion ended at sundown. Either way, it is an iconic, memorable town name and the name of our church
Sundown Church History
Sundown Church began as First Baptist Church and was officially organized on Saturday, July 19, 1930. Brother L.M. Clements was called as the first pastor on August 30, 1930. Currently, Pastor Eddie Trice is in-person preaching on Sunday mornings
“The building of churches whereby the people could worship was an important part of the development of each community in Hockley County. Worship services were held first in the schools. Then as each church was organized, church buildings were erected and expanded as the congregation grew.” (Hockley County - The First 50 Years: Lillian Brasher)
